Eco-Schools
School Eco Council
Each P4-7 class has two Eco Reps who attend a School Eco-Council meeting each month. They have buddy classes in P1-3 who they support and keep updated with news. The Eco Reps come up with ideas as to how we can look after the environment in and around our school. We are working towards our Green Flag application and our three main targets are:
-
To encourage biodiversity (lots of wildlife) in our school grounds
-
To reduce litter in the Ballysally community area
-
To enhance learning and wellbeing through outdoor learning
We have created a new school garden with fruit bushes which is attracting new wildlife and will produce fruit to harvest. LSC2 has taken part in Eco-Schools workshops in order to learn how to harvest the fruit and care for the garden. The Eco Reps organised a whole school litter pick, carried out a litter survey and also plan to run a campaign to reduce litter in the local area. They have organised for our food waste to be recycled and empty the food bins in the classrooms. The Eco Council also give their views on outdoor learning and other issues in school.
